I bought this 1972 510 in 1986. It's an extremely clean 510 that has never had any kind of damage and has practically no rust. It has original air conditioning. It has less than 110,000 original miles! It has been garaged and well maintained for pretty much its entire life.
With its near-perfect body work and beautiful paint job, this is one of the nicest looking 510's that I have seen. With its Weber-carbureted 2-liter and its aggressive ride height with 15-inch wheels and tires, it looks and sounds serious too.
Body: Midnight blue (original color) Sikkens polyurethane paint job with painted, one-piece bumpers and painted door handles. The rocker panel moldings, the antenna, and all emblems have been removed. There is no outside door mirror. All holes and seams in the bumpers were welded before the bumpers were painted. The grille and windshield wipers are gloss black powder coated. European tail lights. Carbon fiber license plate frame. Nice windshield with no scratches, chips, fading, yellowing, or bubbles. The body work and paint job on this 510 are absolutely gorgeous. There are no door dings or rock chips or any other kind of damage. It is extremely straight. This car was painted by Tony Dee, who also painted my "Yellow Fever" 510. Tony does better body work than anyone I have ever met.
Chassis: Shortened struts, 1-3/16" custom front ball joint "bump steer" spacers, slotted rear subframe with enlarged exhaust system hole, Suspension Techniques springs front and rear, KYB shock absorbers front and rear, large TMC front and rear anti-roll bars, 15 by 6-inch Maxima Aluminum wheels with 195/50 Fulda Y-2000's. Trunk-mounted battery with hidden battery cable cutoff switch.
Engine: Rebuilt L20B with dual Weber 40 DCOE sidedreaft carburetors. Polished aluminum valve cover. Seven-blade fan with clutch. 280ZX flywheel, clutch, and 5-speed.
Interior: Recaro black leather seats and Momo Jackie Stewart steering wheel. Clean, crack-free dash with factory tach. New, custom blue carpeting. Console with padded arm rest. Later model Nissan day-night rear view mirror. Remote, cable-operated inside trunk release. Clarion AM-FM cassette audio system.
Recent maintenance (September 1999): Changed oil and oil filter, using Purolator PF2 filter. Replaced all brake and clutch fluid, and bled brakes and clutch, using Prestone DOT4 brake fluid. Replaced transmission and differential oil, using Valvoline DuraBlend semi-synthetic. Thoroughly washed and waxed. Replaced fuel hoses. Flushed cooling system and replaced coolant using Prestone coolant and distilled water. New battery. New custom Taylor plug wires and new Bosch platinum spark plugs.
Sold: I sold this 510 in August, 2001. I owned this car for 15 years. Needless to say I was sad to see it go, but fortunately, it went to a good home - somebody that loves 510's and has owned both 2-door and 4-door 510's in the past. The factory tach decided to quit working on the day I sold it. Obviously this 510 has a mind of its own and was not happy about being taken from the comfort of the garage where it lived over half of its life.
